Xeromax Sciences takes 1st place in the 2009 BYU Business Plan Competition
Provo, Utah – April 3, 2009
Xeromax sciences took 1st place in the 2009 BYU Business Plan Competition. The other teams that competed were KT Tape (2nd place) and Terra Nova (3rd place). This year’s competition was very competitive. All three teams within the top three consisted almost entirely of MBA students.
The top three teams were selected from among nine semi-finalist teams who all presented to a group of 12 partner-level Private Equity and Venture Capital investors the day before. The finals were judged by a group of over 40 successful entrepreneurs and investors - all founders of the Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology on the BYU campus.
“To have beaten out so many top-notch business plan teams further validates the strength of what we are doing. Our technology is real and the market opportunities are ripe for this type of innovation” said Chris Bryant, CEO of Xeromax Sciences.
The BYU Business Plan Competition (BPC) is one of the nation’s largest private competitions, with over $100K in prize money and in-kind services to be divided among the top three teams. The competition is a year-long event designed to assist students in developing their business ideas into fundable business plans. This year over 40 business plans were submitted to the competition. Of those, 9 teams were selected to pitch in the semi-final round that took place on April 2nd. The final event took place the following day in front of over 1000 students, faculty, observers, and judges. Because of the prestige of the BYU BPC, the top team is given an automatic berth into the Global Moot Corp competition at the University of Texas – Austin.
